I really like what you have so far I can see a lot of potential with this game. I enjoy the art style I think it fits the style of the game pretty well. The concept of the game is very simple yet was rather addicting for the hour I played the game. Mechanically, there are a lot of small criticism's I have. First, I think the hud icons are way too big. The item inventory on the top left could be a lot smaller, especially when you eventually add new materials. The building icons on the right could be smaller as well, or possibly just a menu that pops on the side for them. It would also be nice if you could zoom out way more from the raft and be able to move the camera around more freely. A way to mute the game sound would be great too. I'm sure you're probably planning a lot of the things I'll say already though. A game mechanic that I think has some great potential is the shark attacking the raft. It made the game more interesting and added some urgency to expand more. I think the player should have to take a risk if they fight the shark however, meaning that the shark could potentially kill the person who fights it. I think it would be interesting if sharks were an actually threat when you first start out (which maybe eventually you could add something in the game that allows people to fight the sharks without as much risk, but would require a certain population of people on the raft or something like that). The sharks could be used to give the player a goal right from the start, that being to expand the raft so the sharks don't devour it. I see expanding the raft similar to building a wall, which the sharks can slowly take down, but you'll remain safe if you keep making repairs and expanding. Also being able to repair parts of the raft the the shark destroyed would be great as well. One last idea I have is that maybe the raft will slowly float by a random small island occasionally (Obviously not big enough to live on though). The player could find materials or maybe building blueprints on the small islands they pass. Just some ideas I had, I'm looking forward to how this game progresses!
